چکیده

We present techniques for improving performance driven facial animation, emotion recognition, and facial key-point or landmark prediction using learned identity invariant representations. Established approaches to these problems can work well if sufficient examples and labels for a particular identity are available and factors of variation are highly controlled. However, labeled examples of facial expressions, emotions and key-points for new individuals are difficult and costly to obtain. In this paper we improve the ability of techniques to generalize to new and unseen individuals by explicitly modeling previously seen variations related to identity and expression. We use a weakly-supervised approach in which identity labels are used to learn the different factors of variation linked to identity separately from factors related to expression. We show how probabilistic Email addresses: [email protected] (David Rim∗), [email protected] (Sina Honari∗), [email protected] (Md Kamrul Hasan), [email protected] (Chris Pal) Published in Image and Vision Computing Journal (IMAVIS) ar X iv :1 51 2. 08 21 2v 2 [ cs .C V ] 2 2 M ay 2 01 6 modeling of these sources of variation allows one to learn identity-invariant representations for expressions which can then be used to identity-normalize various procedures for facial expression analysis and animation control. We also show how to extend the widely used techniques of active appearance models and constrained local models through replacing the underlying point distribution models which are typically constructed using principal component analysis with identityexpression factorized representations. We present a wide variety of experiments in which we consistently improve performance on emotion recognition, markerless performance-driven facial animation and facial key-point tracking.

Online Expression Mapping for Performance-Driven Facial Animation

Recently, performance-driven facial animation has been popular in various entertainment area, such as game, animation movie, and advertisement. With the easy use of motion capture data from a performer’s face, the resulting animated faces are far more natural and lifelike. However, when the characteristic features between live performer and animated character are quite different, expression map...

Improving LNMF Performance of Facial Expression Recognition via Significant Parts Extraction using Shapley Value

Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) algorithms have been utilized in a wide range of real applications. NMF is done by several researchers to its part based representation property especially in the facial expression recognition problem. It decomposes a face image into its essential parts (e.g. nose, lips, etc.) but in all previous attempts, it is neglected that all features achieved by NMF ...

Emotion recognition through facial expression analysis based on a neurofuzzy network

Extracting and validating emotional cues through analysis of users' facial expressions is of high importance for improving the level of interaction in man machine communication systems. Extraction of appropriate facial features and consequent recognition of the user's emotional state that can be robust to facial expression variations among different users is the topic of this paper. Facial anim...

Facial Expression Recognition Based on Structural Changes in Facial Skin

Facial expressions are the most powerful and direct means of presenting human emotions and feelings and offer a window into a persons’ state of mind. In recent years, the study of facial expression and recognition has gained prominence; as industry and services are keen on expanding on the potential advantages of facial recognition technology. As machine vision and artificial intelligence advan...

Towards Automatic Performance Driven Animation Between Multiple Types of Facial Model

In this paper we describe a method for re-mapping animation parameters between multiple types of facial model for performance driven animation. A facial performance can be analysed in terms of a set of facial action parameter trajectories using a modified appearance model with modes of variation encoding specific facial actions which we can pre-define.
